[abstract] In large urban areas the air pollution load at any ground location is dependent on many factors like topography. In addition to ground-based air pollution measurements laser remote sensing facilities are now available. With a sensing range 2-4 km the differential absorption LIDAR method allows 3D studies of air pollution dynamics. In this paper presentation with relevant explanations of some typical measurements with a DIAL system during EC MEDCAPHOT-TRACE campaign performed in Athens in the summer of 1994, as well as some results from other European cities in the recent years will be made.
